Just a little bit about me….

I have always loved taking pictures but I never dreamt that it would become a fulltime career that would see me with my own studio and travelling across the world photographing weddings. But here I am and I am extremely grateful and proud of my journey. I am a qualified photographer and secondary school teacher, I juggled both for a few years but Daisy Dots blossomed into something so amazing and so big that I had to choose…my love of photography won!

I am now the proud owner of my very own studio, a beautiful barn conversion in Middleton, Market Harborough. Whilst I will always primarily be a wedding photographer (it’s my big passion…I am a secret romantic and am often caught trying to wipe my eyes whilst taking pictures!) I must say that I love studio shoots, from newborns to fine art portraiture…I love it all. I get a real buzz from knowing that my work is proudly displayed in homes across the country and love seeing all my work as profile pictures…it makes my heart smile! For my studio work, I print everything I produce, I firmly believe that pictures are heirlooms to be passed down through generations. I love sitting going through my Grandparents old albums, the feel of them in my hands, being able to study them and cherish them…something that our children might not feel the joy of doing in this digital age.

My inspiration

Well I could list all the photographers that inspire me and believe me, I could fill a whole page, but the real inspirations are my family. I have four beautiful daughters, they really are the inspiration behind Daisy Dots in many ways. I have spent their entire lives chasing them around with a camera, they say look at what a person photographs and you will see what they love! I also wanted to show them that you can be anything you want to be in this life if you set your mind to it. My two oldest children both moved away, so pictures became even more important in my life. Kate went to Australia and Chloe went to London, so I watched their lives through series of photographs..I would look through those pictures daily just to feel close to them (sad I know!). They have both recently returned home which I am very happy about (even though I am back to having to hunt for my makeup, hairspray and clothes!)! I also have two younger girls who you will see in lots of my pictures, they will always be my favourite things to photograph…Jessie (8) and Daisy (3).

Teachers Pet

The teacher in me believes in not doing things by halves, I have to be the best that I can possibly be, so I am always learning and investing in myself. When I started Daisy Dots, I went back to college and completed two qualifications in Photography, gaining Distinctions in everything.
I have also been fortunate enough to train with some of the top photographers across the world. For each genre of photography I sought out the best and invested into training with them. I feel incredibly privileged to have met these people and more determined to succeed.

Secret confession

* I profess to love Prosecco…I actually prefer lemonade (pink lemonade to be precise!)
* I am a perfectionist when it comes to photographs and my work…yet my house is always a mess and I desperately need a cleaner
* I don’t know my left from my right…in studio shoots I have to direct you by physically moving you!
* I keep the studio stocked with chocolate for clients, they rarely eat it but I have to restock it weekly!

All about Katie

I am the eldest daughter of Daisy Dots’s Nicola and I started working with my mum after returning home from two years living in the land down under! I left school at sixteen to do a hairdressing apprenticeship and at the age of seventeen I had my own bridal hair and makeup business so the wedding industry is in my veins. I ran this in-between travelling and was a part of more than one hundred weddings all over the country! I loved every bit of my job and felt incredibly honoured to share a part of so many people’s special day. I did a lot of commercial work too, travelling all over the country to style for magazines, events and even for London fashion week!

I love nothing more than meeting new people and learning new things and that’s exactly what working for Daisy Dots allows me to do. I have spent the last three years backpacking around Asia, living and travelling in Australia and walking nearly a thousand kilometers across Spain! Travelling is something that I have always wanted to do and something I will always do, so for me this career allows me the best of both worlds. My dream is to shoot weddings in beautiful locations all around the world, meet new people, experience different cultures and indulge in foreign food!

I love working with my mum, she’s my best friend and such an inspiration! We are constantly bouncing new ideas for the business off each other and having a laugh in the process. I am now trained in editing, second shooting at weddings and am chief set designer in the studio! This coming year will see me take on my own weddings as primary shooter… mum might even end up second shooting for me!
